SWIRCA Board of Directors

Randall K. Craig is a member of the SWIRCA Board of Directors and serves as our President. since October of 2004.  Mr. Craig was admitted to the practice of law by the Indiana Supreme Court in 1975, and initially practiced as a tax specialist with one of the international certified public accounting firms in Indianapolis, Indiana, before moving to Evansville, Indiana to practice law.  He has been a frequent speaker and writer on various legal topics. He also publishes a bi-monthly newsletter to more than 2,500 persons. Mr. Craig is:
-Certified as an Estate Planning and Administration Specialist By the Specialty Certification Board of the Indiana State Bar Association, Probate, Trust and Real Property Section
-Certified as an Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation
-Certified as a Geriatric Service Provider
-Member of Council of Advanced Practitioners of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys

Keith Krietenstein, is a 1966 graduate of F.J. Reitz High School and a 1970 graduate of the University of Evansville with a major in Business Administration/Personnel Management and a dual minor in Psychology and Economics.  He was recognized for academic achievement at UE being selected for membership in the Pi Sigma Epsilon honorary business fraternity.  Keith retired in 2006 after a 36 year career with the U.S. Social Security Administration.  During those 36 years, he held various positions with the agency while working in 13 different Social Security offices throughout the six state Chicago Region.  He returned to Evansville as the District Manager of the Evansville Social Security office in 1998.  Mr Krietenstein has served on the SWIRCA Board of Directors (current VP-Past Secretary), Vanderburgh County Council on Aging (current Secretary-Past President and Past VP),  KIWANIS International Club (Past President and Past VP), Knox County United Community Social Ministries (Past Treasurer), GENERATIONS Board of Directors (Past VP and Past Treasurer), Knox County Human Resource Council (Past Public Relations Officer), and St. Johns UCC (Past Senior Youth Director and Church Board member).

Keith lives with his wife Janet, and has two adult sons, Shane Hope and Justin Hope, and one Grandson, Gage Hope.


Keith Krietenstein - Vice-President

Cindy Kepler, Secretary, has been a SWIRCA board member since 2004.  For 9 years she has been a Senior Admissions Director for Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rockport.  Cindy serves as a community liaison and supervises a Miller’s Merry Manor admissions director in Hope, Indiana on marketing strategies. She also serves on the Spencer County Council on Aging Board, Secretary for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program Board, co-coordinates the Perry-Spencer Senior Community Advisory Committee, and coordinates the Ohio Valley Gerontology Monthly Networking Program.  Prior to her career in marketing she worked for the Indiana Department of Corrections (IDOC) for 8 years.  In 1998 she received IDOC Program of the Year Award competing among 500 programs.  Cindy is a graduate of Hanover College with a degree in Sociology.  She has 2 children, Ashley and Jordan.

Married in 1972 to Dennis Strahl, Karyn graduated in 1973 from LPN Nursing School. She worked as a nurse for 32 years in hospitals, nursing homes and doctors offices and began marketing for a nursing service in 1999.  She belongs to the Gerontolgy network, Leads Group network, has been on the Board of Directors of PCCOA for 12  years, Board of Directors of SWIRCA,  Kiwanis, and is a Perry County Chamber Ambassador.  She has received  5 awards from Who's Who's for Professional Women, and 2 Outstanding Marketing awards from Omni Home Care.  She has 3 children and 7 grandchildren with an eighth on the way.  Her loves are family first and then job. 


Karyn Strahl - Treasurer

Andrew Alexander is the General Manager of Alexander Funeral Homes, where he has been a licensed funeral director since 1994.  Beyond administrative functions, Andrew works directly with families in helping them through the funeral process.  Born in Evansville, Andrew graduated from North High School and then earned a BA in English from DePauw University.  He and his wife Kristie have three children and live on Evansville's north side.  

Mr. Alexander is a member of the Evansville Rotary Club and has served on the boards of the Rotary Club and the Vanderburgh Community Foundation.

Mary Arnold serves as the Office Manager for the Evansville, Vanderburgh County Emergency Management Agency and as such, she and her fellow employees are responsible for the mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery from major emergencies and disasters that would affect the City of Evansville and Vanderburgh County.  In addition, Mary is one of our most tireless volunteers and gives generously of her time and effort.

State Rep. Dennis T. Avery joined the SWIRCA Board of Directors in 2008 and is a welcome addition.  After graduating from Boonville High School, he went on to attend the University of Evansville and earned his bachelor's degree in business with a major in marketing. Dennis then completed a tour of duty in Vietnam, serving with the U.S. Army First Aviation Brigade.  Dennis currently serves as Coordinator of Adult Marketing and Recruitment for the University of Southern Indiana. He lives in Evansville with his wife, Patty, the Employee Communications Director for Old National Bank.


State Representative Dennis T. Avery

Debbie Bush is Vice-President, General Manager of WFIE-TV, the NBC affiliate in Evansville.  A 27 year veteran of broadcasting, Debbie has held numerous positions of either News Director or Assistant News Director in some of the country's major markets.  She has received various regional and national awards, including four regional Emmy's, the Edward R. Murrow and Headliner awards, and was named the YWCA Woman of the Year while News Director in Indianapolis.  Since moving to Evansville Debbie has a member of the Foundation Board for USI, and board member for Komen for the Cure.

Marilyn graduated from Chrisney High School , then went to Devry’s College of Cosmetology.  She attended  University of Evansville for Interior Decorating and Design and has been a hair dresser for 45 years and has also educated at many at National, State and local Cosmetology seminars.  Past member of Tri Kappa Sorority.  Also volunteered at the Freedom Festival and Reitz Museum for many years.  Marilyn is married and has grown children and is also a grandmother to  three grand children.  She enjoys knitting, sewing , interior decorating and helping in the community.

Judi K. Early serves the Evansville Goodwill Industries on Greenriver Road while also being a Vanderburgh County representative to SWIRCA.

Rolland Eckels brings a wealth of experience to the board.  After attending F.J. Reitz High School and the University of Evansville, Rolland taught four years of high school, spent two years as the Athletic Business Manager at UE, became the first Executive Director of the local United Way for four years before spending 28 years as the Director of Public Affairs for Mead Johnson.  Mr. Eckels currently serves as President of the Evansville - Vanderburgh County Library Board and is Secretary of the Visiting Nurses Association board.  Roland is not only a past President of the SWIRCA Board, but has served on a multitude of Boards and is a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash award.

John Friend has been a member of the SWIRCA Board of Directors since XXXX.  John is a graduate of Indiana State University, School of Business, 1973. He has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Indiana CPA Society, and National Association of Certified Valuation Analyst. John is President of Friend & Company, Certified Public Accountants and Consultants. He is also Chairman of the Southwestern Indiana Action Council of the NFIB, and a board member of the Vanderburgh County Levee Authority.

Martha Henderson is a 19 year employee of Old National Bank and is a Vice President of the firm, acting as Loan Servicing and Support Manager.  Martha has three children and has been active in her church and has served in the Big Brother / Big Sister school mentoring program and has taught through Junior Achievement.

Educated at University of the Philippines, Oklahoma State University, State University of New York and Purdue University, Dr. Hoops comes to us after a well rounded and successful career in education, government, outreach and consulting.  Dr. Hoops accomplishments include a Doctorate Degree in Education, Public Administration, Planning and Policy, Director of Academic Relations for the National Restaurant Association, Director of Education and Training at the United States Department of Agriculture, and has acted as Deputy Director for ten County Senior Centers.  She has a plethora of work experiences and is a welcome addition to the SWIRCA Board.

Stephen S. Lavallo is an attorney with McCray, Lavallo, Frank, Klingler working in the areas of Worker's Compensation Law, Estate Planning, Corporate Law, Real Estate and Business Planning.  Mr. Lavallo is currently or has been in the past, a member of the SWIRCA Foundation Board, the Evansville Rotary Club, the Evansville Bar Association, Evansville Downtown Civitan Club, Memorial High School Alumni Association, Oak Meadow Golf Club and Holy Redeemer Church.

William Edward Miller is a former K-8 elementary school Industrial Arts Teacher at Plaza Park, assistant principal of Cynthia Heights and Washington Schools, principal of Culver Elementary , and retired principal of McGary Middle School.  He spent twenty-nine (29) years of his education career in the Evansville-Vanderburgh School Corporation.  He served two years in the U.S. Army  (Korean “Conflict”) as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division.  He received the “Meritorious Teachers Award” from the Indiana Industrial Arts Association, the Indiana Middle School Association's “Principal of the Year Award.”, and was named a “Kentucky Colonel”  by Governor Martha Layne Collins.  He has been actively involved in Liberty Baptist Church for 67 years, and is a volunteer for Liberty Mentoring and Tutoring Program for students in elementary, middle and high school.  He is presently serving as board vice president,  volunteer construction chairman, curator, and personnel director of the Evansville African American Museum.

Bob Peppiatt attended Chandler Elementary School, Castle High School at Newburgh, Indiana, graduating in 1964; Indiana State University, 1964; Indiana University, 1990-91; Ball State University, 1991-93, AA 1993 With Academic Distinction; University of Southern Indiana, 1994-97, BS 1996 cum laude; Indiana University School of Law-Indianapolis, date of graduation, May 2000, Juris Doctor.  His associations include The Chandler JC's, charter member, past member, Kiwanis International, Warrick County Council on Aging - board member, Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging, Inc. - board member, Warrick County Community Corrections - ex-officio board member, Dayspring Ministries - board member, Counseling for Change - board member - Vice-President.  Bob's professional memberships include the Indiana State Bar Association, Warrick County Bar Association - past-President - Scholarship Committee, American Inn of Court - Brooks Inn at Evansville, Indiana and the Evansville Bar Association


Bob Peppiatt

Bob Ramsbottom is a retired Teacher, Coach and Athletic Director who, since his retirement in 1994, has been very active in the community.  He has served on multiple boards including the Indiana Association of United Ways, Perry County Museum, Regional Art Commission, Perry County Retired Teachers Association, Perry County Council on Aging, Southwestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging,  Perry County Extension, Perry County Foundation, among  others.  Bob is a member of the Kiwanis, the Optimist Club and the Tell City Chamber of Commerce.  He currently volunteers for United Way projects, Habitat for Humanity, the Parks and Recreation Commision, and his churches Pastor and Parish committees. 

Dr. Nelson P. Rivers has been a SWIRCA Board member since XXXX and has helped SWIRCA become what it is today.  As a specialist in the area of Retirement Planning, Dr. Rivers has vast experience with financial matters and is not only a member of the Umbach Financial Group, but also teaches comprehensive retirement planning courses at the University of Evansville showing how to create a plan to retire early, how to use new tax laws to your advantage, how to ask the right questions when evaluating insurance coverage, how to select the retirement plan distribution choice that is right for you, and how to plan retirement income strategies to preserve your standard of living. 


Dr. Nelson P. Rivers

Sam Rogers is Manager of Public Relations for Deaconess Health System.  He is responsible for the following services to the five hospitals, multiple ambulatory care locations and 5000 employees of Deaconess Health System.

- Advertising to the community services available throughout Deaconess Health System.
- Assisting with system-wide marketing efforts.
- Communicating information about Deaconess
- Maintaining positive Media Relations.
- Enhancing the perception of Deaconess being a good corporate citizen

Sam lives with his wife Cathy and their four children in Newburgh.


Sam Rogers

Reverend Jeffrey O. Stratton is the Senior Minister of American Baptist East Church in Evansville.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business, a Master of Divinity Degree and multiple other certifications.  He is responsible for the Pulpit ministry, ministry development, administrative duties and staff administration.  Reverend Stratton has been quite successful, increasing attendance by 325% and instituting and running various outreach ministry projects around the world.

After graduating high school, Patricia Koch joined the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul in St. Louis.  She spent ten years as a nurse with the Daughters of Charity in St. Louis, New Orleans and Chicago.  She left the religious order to care for her ill parents, and in 1960 she married Bill Koch whose family owned Santa Claus Land in Santa Claus, Indiana and over the next six years the couple had five children.  Pat has been instrumental earning Holiday World and Spashin' Safari the titles of World's Friendliest Park and the World's Cleanest Park.  Deeply involved with her faith, she has worked with the Catholic Foundation of Southwestern Indiana to start the Wisdom Program and various other projects.  In 2002, Mrs. Koch received her Masters Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Loyola University.

Each December, Mrs. Koch heads up the Santa's Elves program, a volunteer project designed to ensure that every child's letter to Santa mailed to the towns Post Office receives a reply.  In 2007, the Santa's Elves mailed more than 10,000 letters to children around the world.


Patricia Koch

Helen Marie Odom, (retired), of Ft. Branch, Indiana, serves on the Board of the SouthWestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging.  She has worked extensively in the Retail field and acted as a volunteer for the Gibson General Hospital Auxiliary, Holy Cross Hospital Committee and Home Care for the Elderly.  Helen is also an AARP board member and has 4 children, 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Troy Land holds a BBA from Western Michigan University and is a graduate of the General Motors Institute, the Florida Institute of Technology and the University of Evansville.  Troy worked as a Plant Accountant before retiring from Potter - Brumfield, a division of Siemons Corp. in 1988.  Troy has been an owner of H&R Block franchises, a contract administrator for Chrysler Corporation in Cape Canaveral Florida and a cost analyst for General Motors.  Mr. Land has served the Princeton Indiana Kiwanis as past President, the Princeton Indiana Salvation Army Advisory Board, S.C.O.R.E., Princeton VFW 1147, Gibson County Community Foundation, American Legion #25, Eagles 361 and the Gibson County Council on Aging Advisory Board.  Troy also served his fellow citizens and his country in the United States Army.

Ella V. Shelton served the community as an educator for many years as a high school business teacher, Counselor and Assistant Principal.  She holds a BA from the University of Evansville, an MS from Indiana University and has done postgraduate work at the University of Louisville, Purdue University and the University of Colorado.
Ella has served on a multitude of committees and boards throughout the area including:  Evansville Retired Teachers Volunteers, Evansville Convention and Visitors Bureau, Evansville Teachers Federal Credit Union Loan Committee, Frog Follies Committee, Student Aid and Counseling Services, and has served Meals on Wheels, Visiting Nurses Association, and is an active member at American Baptist East Church.

Shirley J. Knote of Evansville serves on the Board of the SouthWestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging.

 Cathy Wagner has served Deaconess Hospital as a staff nurse for various units throughout the hospital including medical-surgical, cardiac, oncology, rehabilitation, and Lamaze instructor for 3 years, telehealth nursing for 2 years with certification in this field, currently community referral             liaison for home services including home assessments, speaking to community groups about home services including hospice, home care, medical equipment and infusion.   Cathy holds a B.S. from Oakland City University and a degree in Nursing from Vincennes University.
Ms. Wagner has been a
Posey County Council on Aging board member since 2004, a SouthWestern Indiana Regional Council on Aging board member since 2004, a 4-H participant and assistant leader 5 years, has provided her Church building committee with a 5 year  commitment involving traveling to other sites of churches and assisting in public meetings to inform the parish  community of progress.   She has been the Parent-Teacher-Organization president for 2 consecutive years at St. Philips Grade School, and a Pony League Girls softball coach for 4 years.  

David Wagner attended Lincoln , Stanley Hall and Plaza Park Elementary Schools and William Henry Harrison High School .  He earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business from Indiana University .   He is the Executive Director of Carver Community Organization, a position he has held since January of 1989. David is a life long member of Memorial Baptist Church where he serves as treasurer and trustee.  David is proud of the fact that Carver employs over 50 staff members contributing more than one million dollars to the local economy thru salaries and currently operates three locations, The Carver Neighborhood Center, C.K. Newsome Community, and the Carver Senior Services Center .
